Superbus Case Study

Overview

Overview

Founded in 2000, Superbus is a leading Israeli public transportation company, serving more than 9,000,000 passengers per year with over 1,000 daily routes and inter-urban lines. Superbus’s computer systems are an integral part of the company’s general management, administration and daily operations. Computer systems stringently monitor and control bus schedules and routes, and generate real-time reports to the Ministry of Transport, including databases and other vital operational data.

Challenge
Superbus’s computer systems were managed and controlled from the company headquarters in Ramla, central Israel. For some time, the system witnessed problems and malfunctions as a result of unfit conditions for its servers, access servers, and other system hardware. Further, there was no system backup, insufficient monitoring and control, and system security was unreliable, with no alerts or warnings from individual computers in the system – and no support when it was needed most.

Superbus management knew that to become and remain competitive, they had to improve daily operations and maintain business continuity. This meant upgrading their entire computing and communications system, reducing system failure to zero, ensuring full system backup, and comprehensive monitoring and control of all network and server communications. In turn, this would enhance overall system security, improve the end-user experience and in the long run, lend support and service to remote users all over the country.

Solution
Superbus turned to the professionals at Y-Tech to design and deploy an upgraded computer and communications system into the company’s headquarters and branch office. Y-Tech’s team initiated the project by studying and assessing Superbus’s current system and system needs. This included inspection and testing, ongoing work processes, software applications and enterprise software. Together with Superbus’ management, it was decided to incorporate a cloud communications solution that would fully integrate management and senior staff at company headquarters. This meant migrating all of Superbus’s IT systems over to Y-Tech’s cloud environment. Y-Tech designed a private cloud system and consolidated all of Superbus’s branch offices into a single, private IPVPN network. The new system was designed and deployed over several weeks, with migration to the cloud taking no more than a few hours – without the need to disable Superbus’ systems or network.

Results
Today, Superbus’s management and staff benefit from a secure and reliable computer and communications system that is controlled and monitored 24/7. To ensure continuous system performance, system faults and malfunctions are reported in real-time. Y-Tech’s customer support and service center is alerted immediately and its engineers are trained to solve problems in real time. The new system includes full system backup and an enhanced security wall supported by the most reliable security software available. With a central computer now connected to the cloud, Superbus employees now have a system they can rely on. This means increased security, maximum flexibility and a marked improvement over organizational effectiveness.

Superbus CIO, Shemi Golan, comments, “We paid a price for major system malfunctions and downtime before partnering with Y-Tech.
